Nearly 600,000 first-year students are beginning their Senior High School journey as the 2025/2026 academic year officially kicks off across Ghana.
Thousands of families many traveling long distances are accompanying their wards to campus, their faces reflecting a blend of excitement, pride, and understandable anxiety.
At bus terminals and school entrances, fresh students in crisp new uniforms were seen carrying trunks and chop boxes filled with school supplies and personal items, ready to embark on this new academic chapter.
Across various campuses, scenes of joy, anticipation, and nervous energy were everywhere. Parents and guardians busied themselves helping with registration and settling their children into dormitories, while school officials worked diligently to manage the influx and maintain order.
However, not all schools are starting today.
Some, including Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) in Legon and Mawuli School in the Volta Region, have postponed admissions for specific reasons.
PRESEC has scheduled a fumigation exercise to ensure a clean and healthy environment for new students, following the departure of continuing students on Thursday, October 17.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reassured parents and guardians that all placed students will be admitted.
This is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring universal access to quality secondary education for all qualified candidates.
