2023 Afcon: Kwadwo Asamoah encourages Black Stars players amid slow start to tournament

Story By: Football Ghana

Former Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is drawing inspiration from the Black Stars slow start to tournament following the team’s sloppy start to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars lost their opening game against Cape Verde on Sunday and face a difficult test against Egypt on Thursday.

“I want to encourage the boys. Honestly, we’ve never had a very good start when it comes to tournament, I think the only good start that we had was in 2010 when we played the World Cup and we won our first game but mostly when it’s African Cup, most of our first games, we always draw or get to lose” he said.

Ghana failed to go beyond the group stage at the last Nations Cup in Cameroon, and are bent on making it to the next phase of the tournament.

The Black Stars will engage Mozambique in their final group game on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Ghana now find themselves in a challenging position in Group following the defeat. They are currently bottom on the table without a point.
