Ghana football legend Ibrahim Sunday says Black Stars can end their trophy drought at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Cameroon if the team is well prepared,
The four-time AFCON champions lost their final preparatory game against Algeria 3-0 at the Education City Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
It was an uninspiring performance from the team with many fans ruling out the Black Stars chances of winning the tournament.
Ibrahim Sunday, 1971 Africa Footballer of the Year winner stated the Black Stars may not be considered among the favourites for the tournament but they can pull a surprise.
“Every country qualified for the tournament [AFCON] and the dream of every country is to win the trophy.
“The trophy will be won by only one country.
“It’s true Ghana has not won the trophy for 40 years but maybe this time, it could be ours.
“If you look at the teams that are going for the tournament, if we shall be truthful, the Black Stars are not favourites to win the cup.
“But favourites are not guaranteed to win tournaments.
“A well-prepared side, psychologically, mentally, physically and everything normally have the chance to win the trophy.
“Has Ghana prepared the players in that manner?
“Although the Black Stars are not favourites but if they work hard with good training, they can win the tournament.” Ibrahim Sunday told Edubiaseman fm.
Ghana is housed in Group C of the tournament alongside Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.
The Black Stars come up against Morocco in their opening game of the tournament in Yaoundé on Monday.
