18 Persons Arrested Over Disturbance On UG Campus Granted GH¢50K bail

The 18 University of Ghana students arrested for their involvement in a scuffle on campus have been granted GH¢50,000 bail by an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused persons were picked up by the police following a clash on the University of Ghana campus on Tuesday, February 14.

A statement from the police said the suspects were among aggrieved past and continuing students who stormed the university premises to protest Management’s new residential policy restricting continuing students from occupying the Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah Residential Halls.

Speaking to journalists after court proceedings on Monday, February 20, counsel for 16 of the 18 students Albert Quashigah said the team had only one task today — to secure bail for their clients.

“Our business today was only to apply for bail and the judge was generous and granted us the bail, and we are now taking steps to execute the bail that has been granted to us,” Mr. Quashigah added.
