We are deeply disappointed in Supreme Court ruling – Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed disappointment over a Supreme Court ruling on the new voter register.

The apex court on Thursday, June 25, dismissed an application by the NDC which challenged the Electoral Commission’s quest to disallow the use of existing voter ID cards as proof of citizenship in the upcoming registration exercise.

Addressing the press, the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama said emphatically that, “We are deeply disappointed and we strongly disagree with the court for this outcome which has confounded many legal experts and indeed has thrown the whole country into a state of confusion”.

He said the legal team of the party was examining the decision of the court while they wait for the full report on the ruling.

He criticised the decision to set a date for the release of the full judgment in July, by which date the EC would have been two weeks into the registration process.

This, therefore, means that NDC’s legal team will have no window of opportunity to appeal.
