The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has closed down the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi following the confiscation of several mobile phones from candidates.
This development was announced by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, on Friday, September 5, 2025, during a press briefing.
He justified that the decision was taken in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
He added that the affected candidates have since been relocated to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi to continue their papers under stricter supervision.
This is part of a series of malpractice-related cases which have been reported during this year’s examinations, resulting in the arrest of at least 14 individuals, including teachers, students, and invigilators, across the country.
Meanwhile, WAEC has assured that the results from all affected centres will be thoroughly reviewed before they are released.
