The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has issued a heartfelt apology following a viral video showing a Dress Code Compliance Team member confronting a Level 100 female student.
The incident sparked widespread attention and concern across social media.
In a statement released on July 3, UPSA described the staff member’s conduct as “unacceptable.” The university also confirmed that internal investigations had validated the events captured on video.
Management stated that no staff member has the authority to mistreat students regardless of circumstances.
UPSA’s Vice-Chancellor has reached out to the student personally, expressing regret over the incident and reassuring her of the institution’s support.
The staff member involved has since submitted a written apology, and the student, in response, acknowledged her part in a letter addressed to the school’s leadership.
UPSA says it’s taking steps to strengthen how its dress code is enforced moving forward. Training for the Dress Code Compliance Team will be updated to promote respectful and professional engagement with students.
The school also reiterated that its dress code aims to prepare students for corporate life and is clearly stated in the Student Handbook.
“UPSA stands for integrity, respect and service, and the welfare of every student remains our highest priority,” the university noted.
While the school remains firm in its commitment to upholding the dress code, it promised that future enforcement will be handled with fairness and sensitivity.
UPSA’s leadership has reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining a safe and respectful academic environment.
