Supreme Court adjourns judgement on Akwatia MP’s application to June 11

The Supreme Court has adjourned the judgement on the injunction application filed by the MP for Akwatia constituency, Ernest Kumi, to June 11, 2025.

The court initially scheduled the judgment to be delivered today, April 30, 2025.

At the court, a five-member panel disclosed that it had not concluded the judgement, leading to the postponement of the case.

The presiding judge addressing the parties involved in the case said, “Unfortunately, the court has been occupied and has not concluded its judgement. So, bear with us on a later day to deliver our judgment”.

The Member of Parliament is seeking the Supreme Court to overturn the injunction issued by the Koforidua High Court, which sought to prevent him from being sworn in as the MP for the Akwatia constituency.

The MP had previously disregarded this injunction.

As a result of his defiance, he faced charges for contempt of court, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.

Currently, he is urging the Supreme Court to annul both the injunction and contempt rulings.
