Another man has been shot and killed in broad daylight at Sabon Zongo, within Kumasi’s Asawase constituency, in what marks the second fatal shooting in the area in less than a week.
Both attacks were carried out by unknown assailants on motorbikes.
According to eyewitnesses, the latest victim yet to be identified was gunned down just as he was about to enter his vehicle near OTEC FM, close to the Manhyia Roundabout.
The attackers, again using a motorbike and armed with an AK-47 rifle, fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
This comes on the heels of a similar incident on July 22, 2025, at Asawase F-Line near the Community Centre, where Abdul-Malik Azenba, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, was fatally shot at his residence.
That attack was also carried out by unidentified gunmen using an AK-47 and a motorbike.
So far, no arrests have been made.
The repeated use of assault rifles and motorbikes in both shootings has raised serious concerns about public safety and the apparent targeting of victims.
Friday’s killing has intensified fear and anxiety across Kumasi, especially in Asawase and surrounding communities.
In response, police have launched a manhunt and increased patrols in the area. Investigators confirmed that AK-47 shell casings were recovered from the latest crime scene.
Residents are calling for swift action to restore security and bring the perpetrators to justice.
