Prof. P.L.O Lumumba Coming

Kenyan academic, Prof. P.L.O Lumumba is due to visit Ghana on Thursday, February 23, to participate in activities of cultural significance. Lumumba, much more identified as a firebrand speechmaker, is a staunch Pan-Africanist and has delivered several powerful speeches alluding to or about African solutions to African problems. Is he going to roar in Ghana?

His visit will primarily take him to the northern parts of Ghana where he will interact with traditional rulers and students. He is expected to pay a courtesy call to the Paramount Chief of the Sankana Traditional Area in the Upper West region, Naa Pagranege Saakoe Mornah III who is the occupant of the Lonkoro Gate.

Prof. Lumumba will then move to Kpikpira in the Upper East region to join the Chiefs and the People of Kpikpira to celebrate their annual Danjuar festival.

 

Chief Of Kpikpira, Naba Dazuur II

 

Kpikpira, a town near Garu, is the cradle of the Bimoba ethnic group and culture in Ghana. The traditions and customs of the Bimoba people which are espoused in the land are essentially embodied in the Chief of Kpikpira, Naba Dazuur II who has been championing the development and peace of his locale and other places where there is the Bimoba tribe. These include Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Togo,  Niger, and the Central Africa Republic. Danjuar which is an event of pomp and pageantry will also see key traditional rulers, politicians, and people from all walks of life in attendance.

The legal luminary as he is, Prof. P.L.O Lumumba is the immediate former Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya School of Law. Lumumba was also the Secretary of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission, in addition to being a founder and visiting scholar of several institutions of higher learning worldwide. He earned his LL.B and LL.M degrees at the University of Nairobi. His LL.M thesis is titled National Security And Fundamental Rights. Lumumba holds a Ph.D. in Laws of the Sea from the University of Ghent in Belgium and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.
