Police in Somanya have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a 30-year-old tricycle (Pragya) rider, Otu Samuel, whose charred vehicle and lifeless body were discovered in the early hours of Saturday, May 3.

The victim was found naked and lying face-up near a gutter at Dorhetso, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.

His tricycle, registered M-23-GR 7942, was discovered nearby, engulfed in flames.

Preliminary information suggests Otu Samuel and his passengers were allegedly chased to the scene around 2 a.m. after being accused of theft. While the others reportedly fled, Samuel was left behind under unclear circumstances.

Police say residents interviewed at the scene denied any involvement in mob justice or hearing cries for help. At the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, a physician assistant confirmed Samuel’s death upon arrival. His body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

So far, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid their investigation.
