The Appointments Committee of Parliament has dismissed a petition filed against Supreme Court Justice nominee, Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, calling it baseless and legally unfounded.
The petition, submitted by Anthony Kwabenya Rau, caused the vetting process to be temporarily suspended on Wednesday, June 18.
Mr. Rau accused the judge of misconduct during a previous court proceeding, claiming he was insulted and disrespected. The petitioner alleged that Justice Ackaah-Boafo referred to him as “arrogant” and “power drunk.”
Justice Ackaah-Boafo has denied all allegations.
On Friday, June 20, Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor announced that the petition had been carefully reviewed and found to lack merit.
He said the committee found no substance in the claims and believed the petition had only served to delay the vetting process.
“The Committee this morning ruled that the petition is frivolous, vexatious, worthless and unmeritorious. It is baseless in law and fact. It is a complete abuse of the process,” Mr. Ahiafor said.
He added that the claims made against the judge related to a judicial decision and not personal misconduct, and therefore did not warrant further consideration.
Following the dismissal, the vetting process for Justice Ackaah-Boafo will now continue.
