The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has arrested several current and former senior officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), and the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), as part of a sweeping investigation into alleged corruption and procurement breaches.

The arrests are linked to controversial revenue assurance contracts awarded by the GRA to SML, agreements that have come under intense public and legal scrutiny over their transparency, procurement process, and actual value to the state.

Among those currently in detention are Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General of the GRA; Isaac Crentsil, a former Commissioner of Customs and now General Manager at SML; and Christian Tetteh Sottie, former Technical Advisor at the GRA and current Managing Director of SML.

The trio was taken into custody on Tuesday night after failing to meet bail conditions.

Also arrested, though later granted bail, are Evans Adusei, CEO of SML; Philip Mensah, former Deputy Commissioner (Legal) at the GRA and now SML’s legal consultant; and Kofi Nti, another former Commissioner-General of the GRA.

In addition, two officials from the Public Procurement Authority, Joseph Kuruk and Faustina Adjorkor, were detained in connection with the investigation.

The OSP is examining the legality of the contracts awarded to SML, particularly focusing on procurement irregularities and the company’s claims of generating significant revenue savings for the state claims which many experts and critics have questioned.

This latest development underscores the OSP’s intensified efforts to crack down on high-level corruption and ensure accountability in public financial management.
