One person has been injured in a road accident involving a Toyota V8 belonging to the founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, at the Ashaiman Overhead on Friday afternoon.
The incident involved the Toyota V8 with registration number GN 76-16 and a commercial vehicle registered GS 3642-12.
Eyewitnesses reported that an ambulance transporting a deceased person with a police escort was driving at high speed through heavy traffic moments before the collision.
In the process, the Toyota V8, which was also said to be speeding, collided with the commercial vehicle before veering off the road and landing in a gutter.
The commercial driver, Frank Amoah, said he had stopped to allow the ambulance and its escort to pass when the Toyota V8 suddenly crashed into his vehicle.
His mate sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Toyota V8 offered a different account, claiming that one of the police escort riders hit his vehicle while attempting to clear the road for the ambulance.
In an effort to avoid another collision, he swerved but struck the commercial vehicle.
Mr. Ayariga confirmed that he was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“I was on my way to a programme when I heard about the accident involving my driver. It was shocking and very upsetting,” he said.
Both vehicles have since been towed from the scene, while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
