The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended Christopher Arthur, its parliamentary candidate for Agona West in the 2024 elections.
According to the party, this decision comes after Arthur was found to have violated a directive from the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, which bans internal campaigning for party roles.
In a letter co-signed by Anthony Kwame Kum, the constituency secretary, and Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the chairman, it was noted that Arthur held a meeting in his electoral area on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The party labelled this meeting as a violation of its regulations, deeming it an act of administrative indiscipline.
“Your action not only disregards the authority of the General Secretary but also undermines internal unity and the strategic work being done to strengthen the party ahead of the next general election,” the letter stated.
In a statement released by the Party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Wednesday, May 14, the NPP highlighted that this decision aims to maintain fairness and integrity within its internal electoral processes.
The statement added that any early interactions with party executives or structures could undermine the authority of the party’s governing bodies and potentially disrupt ongoing strategic initiatives designed to prepare the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
