Over 5,500 delegates are expected to converge at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, today, July 19, 2025, for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates Conference.
The theme for the most anticipated National Delegates Conference is “Rebuilding Together with our Values”.
Today’s conference is set to be a significant event for the NPP, with major constitutional reforms taking centre stage.
Delegates will also engage in discussions on proposed amendments that emerged from the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee report.
Moreover, a proposal that has been on the table since the party’s 2019 Delegates Conference in Kumasi, which received general approval but was never officially adopted, is also scheduled for final review and formal ratification at this conference.
The party leadership considers this event a vital moment to complete that long-awaited initiative.
Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP’s Director of Communications, stressed the strategic importance of these constitutional changes during a recent press briefing ahead of the conference.
He pointed out that these amendments are primarily designed to enhance the party’s internal framework and strategically position it for future electoral success, especially with an eye on the 2028 general elections.
“That report, which has a package of amendments and proposals resulting from the Mike Oquaye Committee and other submissions by party members, is part of the bundle that this conference will consider,” Mr. Ahiagbah explained, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the reforms.
Prior to this conference, the Chairman of the National Planning Committee, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, during a press conference, also said that only delegates and officials would be granted access upon presentation of a valid accreditation.
He added that security personnel have been instructed to remove any unauthorised individuals found on the grounds.
Again, delegates are expected to remain within their designated zones to avoid disruptions, which will be dealt with decisively by security operatives.
Security measures
The party’s internal security team is expected to collaborate with national security agencies to ensure law and order during the programme. Security officers will be deployed at hostels, kitchens, and rest areas, with the stadium’s inner perimeter restricted to authorised personnel only.
Each of the 16 regions will be assigned a dedicated gate to streamline access and enhance security screening.
All incidents of misconduct or security breaches will be met with swift legal action. Non-delegates are advised to follow the conference remotely, as no special access will be granted without a formal invitation.
Ban on campaign materials
Meanwhile, the party has placed a total ban on campaign-related materials, including posters, flyers, T-shirts, and banners, across Accra and the venue.
According to the party executives, compliance teams will remove and destroy any such materials, and no campaign activity will be permitted before, during, or after the event.
