The Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers Association has assured the public that there will be no LPG shortages, despite their decision to boycott certain Bulk Oil Distributing Companies (BDCs).
Vice President Gabriel Kumi emphasized that numerous BDCs across the country are still supplying gas to their members, ensuring a steady supply.
“We don’t have anything against lifting LPG from Atuabo [Gas Processing Plant]. But those ones at Tema, we specify we are not going to do business with them and nothing will change that stand of ours. There are a lot – about six or seven BDCs that are selling LPG. Since we boycotted them on the 12th [August 2024], there’s still lots of LPG in the system for all of us to load”.
“There’s no shortage of LPG in town. So, these two companies, nobody should deceive you that boycotting these two depots at Tema will create any shortage in the nation…that will never happen”, he assured.
He noted that Sentuo Refinery has recently begun production and will soon distribute a significant amount of LPG, assuring Ghanaians that there is no need for concern.
“We have invested hugely in this industry and we are not going to do anything to jeopardise the investments”.
He urged the National Petroleum Authority(NPA) to take its regulatory duties more seriously.
“We have never said anywhere that we are not lifting gas from Sage Petroleum at Atuabo. Our letter was specific to Tema depots, we didn’t mention Atuabo, and the time for us to even go back to Atuabo is 26th [August 2024] which is not right yet. so why is he [Obed Boachie, Head of Regulation at NPA] jumping the gun?? This propaganda of the regulator must stop, I mean you should be more serious than this”.
