NIA announces new dates for mop-up exercises

Prospective Ghana Card applicants who were unable to register during the mass registration exercises in the Volta, Oti, and Ashanti Regions can now heave a sigh of relief.

This is because the National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced new dates for its planned mop-up exercises in the three regions of the country.

The authority in a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Affairs, ACI Francis Palmdeti said the mop-up exercises was targeted at only citizens who could not participate in the mass registration exercise.

All three regions were expected to have had their mop-up exercise commence on July 30, 2020.

But the authority in its latest communique said the mop-up exercise in the Volta Region would rather take place from August 3 to August 14, 2020.

The Ghana card mop-up exercise in the Ashanti Region is expected to start from August 2 to August 16.

The mop-up exercise in the Oti Region is expected to commence from August 3 to August 14, 2020.

“All prospective applicants in the said regions are to take note of the new dates for the mop-up registration exercise. This mop-up exercise is targeted at persons who were unable to register during the mass registration exercise which took place a couple of months ago. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the statement said.

The NIA has so far embarked on its mop-up exercises eight (8) regions. They include  Upper West, Upper East, Central, and Western Regions.

The rest are Western North, Savannah, Northern, and the North East Regions.

According to ACI Palmdeti, the authority has four (4) more regions to conduct the mop-up exercise after it completes the exercise in the Volta, Oti, and Ashanti Regions.

The remaining four regions are Greater Accra, Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East Regions.
