The Northern Regional Directorate of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced critical guidelines for the upcoming Tamale Central parliamentary primary, scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025.
In a notice signed by Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, Director of Elections and IT, voting will commence on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude at 2:00 p.m. sharp.
Delegates will be casting their votes using four designated ballot boxes, each corresponding to a particular electoral area. Each delegate will receive QR-code-enabled tags with their personal information and must also provide an additional form of identification, such as a voter ID, Ghana Card, or party membership card.
To maintain security throughout the event, around 250 joint security officers will be deployed. Accredited observers will only be permitted to stay in the supporters’ stands of the stadium and cannot access the inner perimeter without prior consent.
Candidates may appoint up to four agents per ballot box, with only one allowed to sign the collated sheet. Additionally, each candidate can access the inner perimeter with two accredited representatives.
The NDC has stressed that delegates cannot enter the voting booth with mobile phones. Furthermore, candidates are prohibited from transporting delegates to the polling centre or campaigning within the voting grounds.
Specific polling stations have been assigned for various electoral areas. Polling Station 1 will serve regional and constituency executives, alongside branches from Agric Mohiyebihi, Gumbihini North, and Aboaboo Ward. Polling Station 2 includes Moshi-Zongo, Tishigu, Salamba, ADB, Warizihi, and Gumbihini South.
Polling Station 3 is designated for Dakpemfong, Buglanfong, Sabonjida, and Victory Wards, while Polling Station 4 will accommodate Changli, Choggu West, Dohinaayili, Zogbeli, and Lamacara delegates.
Dr. Abukari reassured delegates and stakeholders that these measures are put in place to guarantee a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral process, reflecting the party’s commitment to fairness and internal democracy.
This upcoming election follows the unfortunate passing of the sitting MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who lost his life in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, alongside seven other individuals.
