The Minority caucus in Parliament has urged President John Dramani Mahama to consider reshuffling some of his ministers due to their continuous absence from parliamentary sessions.
This request follows the failure of the Minister of State in Charge of Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, and the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, to attend Parliament to address enquiries pertinent to their respective departments.
During a session in Parliament on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, voiced his dissatisfaction with the postponement in responding to the questions, emphasising that several had lingered on the Order Paper for a considerable duration.
“These are questions for the minister in charge of public sector reforms. It has been on the Order Paper for a very long time. So, we have to take these questions because we are rising on Friday. Otherwise, it is going to be a problem,” he stated.
He also expressed concerns regarding the absence of the Food and Agriculture Minister, indicating that although the minister had formally notified Parliament of his inability to attend, provisions should have been made for his deputy to be present.
“Besides, the minister for agriculture just wrote to us that he cannot come. He has been a very beautiful person, but his deputy must be here,” Annoh-Dompreh remarked.
The Minority Chief Whip additionally proposed that members of the Majority caucus who are prepared and willing to serve should be afforded the opportunity, urging the President to remain aware of the developments occurring in Parliament.
“The president must be watching; the first reshuffle must happen,” he concluded.
