Menzgold victims demand compensation in mid-year budget

The Coalition of Aggrieved Menzgold Customers is calling on the government to include provisions in the upcoming mid-year budget to address outstanding debts owed to them by the defunct Menzgold Company Limited.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is set to present the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The presentation will outline Ghana’s economic performance for the first half of the year and provide updates on the implementation of the national budget.

Speaking to the media on Monday, July 21, Coalition Convenor Fred Forson acknowledged that while the government has outlined a roadmap and made efforts to address their concerns, affected customers now expect firm financial commitments in the budget to bring real relief.

“We’re appealing to the Finance Minister that over 200 victims have died, and many more are suffering. We are pleading with him to find space in the mid-year budget and make provisions for Menzgold customers,” the Convener said.

The Coalition emphasised that without a clear budgetary allocation, the hardships faced by thousands of victims will continue, despite repeated government assurances of support.

MenzGold, once a prominent player in Ghana’s financial sector, shut down amid allegations of operating a Ponzi scheme.

Its collapse left thousands of investors stranded, unable to recover their funds, and many are now facing severe financial hardships as legal proceedings drag on.

Years of litigation against MenzGold CEO Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, have yielded limited progress, deepening frustrations among affected customers.
