A plastic recycling and manufacturing plant in Weija, Greater Accra, has been engulfed in a massive fire raging since dawn.
The blaze, which reportedly started around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, quickly spread through the facility, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering panic among nearby residents.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the scene battled the inferno in an effort to prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures. With four fire trucks and additional support from the Assembly’s District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment, firefighters managed to contain the blaze within the company’s premises.
Authorities are yet to determine what sparked the blaze, but no casualties have been recorded.
