President John Mahama has made a powerful appeal for an end to the conflict in Bawku and all other troubled areas across the country, urging the people to embrace lasting peace for the sake of future generations.

Speaking at Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary on March 6th, he passionately declared, “The people of Bawku and beyond, it is time for lasting peace to prevail.”

Quoting Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, he emphasized the strength of unity: “The forces that unite us are inherently and far greater than the divisions imposed upon us.”

Addressing the people of Bawku directly, President Mahama spoke from the heart: “I do not speak as President but as your son and brother, entrusted with a solemn duty.”

He urged the community to create a peaceful future for the next generation, stating:

“Our children deserve to inherit a land of hope, not fear; a land where markets thrive with trade, not tension; where schools echo with learning, not silence and sorrow.”

President Mahama called on all to reject division, mistrust, and past grievances, saying: “Let us give friendship a chance. Let us give peace a chance.”
