The Ministry of Defence has officially announced that the Investigation Board tasked with looking into the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has begun its work.
In a statement from Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ministry confirmed that the Board is led by the National Security Coordinator and includes members from the Ghana Air Force as well as the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The statement highlighted that the United States of America is offering advice and assistance through investigators from the U.S. Air Force.
Additionally, it mentioned that other relevant local and international experts may be called upon to contribute to the investigation.
On the day of the crash, August 6, 2025, a preliminary investigation team was quickly assembled to collect evidence to support the Board’s efforts.
Dr. Forson stated, “The Investigation Board has been mandated to complete its work within 30 days”.
The victims included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, alongside NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.
Also among those lost were three crew members of the Ghana Armed Forces: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
