The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak-Mohammed, has announced a renewal of the curfew imposed on Nkwanta township and its surrounding communities within the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The renewed curfew took effect from Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Under the new directive, curfew hours will run from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. each day, based on security advice from the Oti Regional Security Council and issued under an Executive Instrument.
In an official statement, the Minister urged all residents, especially chiefs, traditional leaders, youth groups, and community stakeholders, to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security authorities.
He emphasised the need for peaceful dialogue and non-violent means in resolving any ongoing tensions or disputes in the area.
The government also reminds the public that the ban on the possession and use of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in Nkwanta and its environs remains strictly in force.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce this ban rigorously, and individuals found in possession of weapons will face arrest and prosecution without exception.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace and stability in the affected communities and called on all citizens to support ongoing efforts by respecting the curfew and security measures in place.
