Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Bryan Acheampong says his internal campaign data shows he is comfortably ahead in the race for the party’s presidential slot, insisting it is unlikely for any other contender to win.
Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday, the former Abetifi Member of Parliament stated that his campaign has conducted extensive profiling of delegates ahead of the NPP presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
He argued that this internal assessment presents a very different picture from public opinion polls circulating in the media.
According to Dr Acheampong, his team has profiled approximately 190,000 of the party’s estimated 209,000 eligible delegates, providing his campaign with a clear understanding of voting intentions within the party.
Based on that exercise, he claimed his support is far ahead of his closest rival.
“I think I’m close to 50 per cent, and the second person is around about half of what I am profiling,” he said.
His comments contrast sharply with an October poll by Global InfoAnalytics, which placed him at five per cent behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
Dr Acheampong questioned the credibility and methodology of the poll, arguing that a small sample size cannot accurately reflect the views of a fixed delegate population.
He also pointed to what he described as declining trends in the same pollster’s reports and questioned how a large proportion of delegates could suddenly be undecided when the voter base has not changed.
Dr Acheampong further alleged that fear and intimidation are influencing how some delegates respond to pollsters, though he declined to provide details.
Despite this, he remained confident that the outcome of the January primary would not change, saying his comments were meant to prepare the public for the result he expects.
