The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, is set to address Parliament today, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, regarding the latest COVID-19 developments in Ghana.
The presentation is scheduled for 2:00 PM at the Parliament House, where the Minister will share an in-depth report on the nation’s public health preparedness, response initiatives, as well as the latest figures on infections, vaccinations, and surveillance.
This briefing follows the confirmation from the University of Ghana on Monday, June 23, of a rise in COVID-19 cases on campus.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 26, the university’s health directorate revealed that both suspected and confirmed cases have emerged within the university, leading to a reinstitution of health protocols and an increase in vigilance.
“All staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread,” the statement noted.
Additionally, a new directive from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has instructed all student organisations—including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and various departmental and school associations to suspend all planned events and week-long celebrations until further notice.
In a message from Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, it was made clear that this decision is a precautionary measure intended to protect the health and safety of the university community.
“These measures have become necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the University community,” the notice stressed.
University authorities have encouraged students and campus organisations to fully comply with this directive and assist in efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
