A violent shooting at Nalerigu Senior High School on the evening of Saturday, July 26, has claimed the lives of two male students, sending shockwaves through the school and the wider North East Region.
The victims, identified by their first names Lukman and Gideon were reportedly inside their dormitory when unidentified gunmen stormed the premises and opened fire, killing them on the spot.
The brutal attack has left students, staff, and families in mourning, with growing fear and tension spreading across the region.
Sources close to the situation revealed that the incident may be linked to the long-running and volatile Bawku conflict, although this connection has not yet been officially confirmed.
Dasmani Fuseini, Assembly Member for the Denugu Electoral Area and uncle of one of the deceased, confirmed the attack and revealed that the victims’ bodies are currently with the police. Families are in the process of retrieving them for burial.
The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation into the killings, as pressure mounts for increased security in schools, especially in areas affected by ongoing conflict.
