Ghana has confirmed its first death from Mpox, according to an update released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The report also revealed 23 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 257 since the outbreak began.

“Unfortunately, one new death has been reported marking a grim milestone in the country’s battle against the viral disease,” the GHS stated.

Health authorities continue to stress that Mpox is primarily spread through close contact with infected individuals.

In light of the rising cases, the GHS is urging the public to remain vigilant and take preventive measures seriously.

These include avoiding close physical contact with symptomatic individuals, maintaining regular hand hygiene, and reporting any signs of illness such as fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, or muscle aches to the nearest health facility as early as possible.

The GHS has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and working actively to contain the spread, while providing care and support to those affected.

Although most Mpox cases are mild, the disease can lead to serious complications, particularly among individuals with weakened immune systems.

Prompt medical attention remains key to managing the infection and reducing risks.

Authorities are calling on Ghanaians to remain calm but cautious as efforts to curb the outbreak continue across the country.
