Fuel allowances for government appointees scrapped

The government has announced an immediate suspension of fuel allowances and allocations for all political appointees as part of its commitment to curbing government spending and enhancing fiscal discipline.

This latest development was announced in a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

The move aligns with a broader cost-reduction strategy under the Mahama administration, which seeks to redirect public funds towards essential national development priorities.

“The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” the statement said.

This cancellation of fuel benefits follows the reduction in the size of government, limiting ministerial appointments, and stopping satellite TV subscriptions for offices at the Presidency and other government agencies.
