A tragic head-on collision between a Yutong bus and a tipper truck has resulted in the death of at least four people, leaving several others injured in Assin Bresiako, located in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
The accident occurred today, Monday, May 12, 2025, when the Yutong bus, with registration number GT 5136-11, was en route from Cape Coast to Kumasi.
The tipper truck, identified by registration number BA 2267-14, was travelling in the opposite direction from Kumasi to Assin Fosu.
According to eyewitnesses, the Yutong bus veered into the opposing lane while trying to overtake, colliding head-on with the tipper truck.
It has been suggested that the bus’s steering locked during this manoeuvre, contributing to the severity of the crash.
Although police have not yet issued an official statement, eyewitness accounts indicate that four passengers lost their lives on impact, while many others suffered injuries and were transported to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment.
Elisha Sarpong, the Assemblyman for the Assin Bresiako Electoral Area, confirmed the incident in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Adom News.
He revealed that the bus was heading to Kumasi after loading passengers from Cape Coast when the accident took place.
He also revealed that a busmate mentioned the steering locking while overtaking, which played a role in the unfortunate event.
Tragically, one of the drivers involved also died.
