Four arrested in Tema as police intercept 315 parcels of suspected Indian hemp

The Tema Community 1 District Police have apprehended four individuals after uncovering 315 compressed parcels containing substances believed to be Indian hemp concealed within the tyres of a truck.

The suspects, Nura Sali, 44; Pius Chukwuma, 49; Mustapha Umar, 18; and Abdulai Amayau, 23, were arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, following a tip-off received by the police.

In a statement released by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, the Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Command, it was confirmed that the truck, bearing registration number GN 7291-16, has been seized, and the suspects are currently in custody as investigations progress.

“The Regional Police Command commends the arresting officers for their professionalism and reiterates its resolve to combat drug-related offences in order to safeguard our communities,” the statement read.

The Command has also encouraged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
