Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Mr. Godfred Dame, has strongly dismissed allegations made by the current Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, regarding discontinuing high-profile criminal cases initiated under the past government.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, February 14, Mr. Dame challenged Dr. Ayine to provide evidence of any memorandum from the prosecution division advising on or discussing the consultation, discontinuation, or termination of the cases in question.

“I challenge Dr. Ayine to show any memorandum presented to him by the prosecution division advising on or expressing any view regarding the consultation or discontinuation of any of the criminal cases he refers to,” Mr. Dame stated.

“I can say without any fear or contradiction that there is none,” he added.

His response comes after Dr. Ayine defended his decision to withdraw certain high-profile cases, arguing that constitutional principles, legal ethics, and professional integrity guided his actions.

He also suggested that there may have been inadequate internal consultation on the cases.

Mr. Dame firmly rejected this claim, further challenging Dr. Ayine to present any proof of discussions with the Director of Public Prosecutions before the cases were discontinued.

“You can be assured he cannot produce any,” he added.
