A devastating fire outbreak occurred on Thursday afternoon at the premises of DTRT Group, a well-known textile and apparel factory located in Adabraka, Accra.
The fire, which reportedly ignited at approximately 3:30 p.m., resulted in thick smoke rising into the sky in the vicinity of the Graphic Press area, prompting an immediate response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Seven fire engines were dispatched to the scene, and firefighters worked very tediously for several hours to contain the blaze.
At about 5:30 p.m., the GNFS had successfully contained the fire, thereby preventing its spread to adjacent buildings.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and as of Thursday evening, there have been no reports of casualties.
DTRT Group, an acronym for “Do the Right Thing,” is a collaboration among investors from Ghana, the United States, and Germany, recognised for its production of apparel for export and its contribution to creating thousands of jobs within Ghana’s garment sector.
The blaze caused extensive damage, destroying over 100 wooden structures and leaving two metal containers entirely burnt out.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported via Facebook that they received the emergency call at 03:31 hrs.
Responding quickly, their personnel arrived on the scene just seven minutes later, at 03:38 hrs, and managed to contain the fire.
