A fierce fire has ravaged several container shops at Bibiani New Town in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, leaving traders counting their losses.
The blaze, which broke out around 3:50 p.m., gutted about six container shops, including two hair salons, two restaurants, a seamstress shop, and a footwear shop.
According to Municipal Fire Commander DO2 Enock Tetteh, firefighters responded quickly after receiving a distress call. His team was able to contain and extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby buildings.
“The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation,” he said, while urging residents and business owners to handle electrical and gas appliances carefully to prevent future incidents.
Some affected shop owners suspect that the fire was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion in one of the restaurants, which then spread rapidly to adjoining shops.
Although no injuries or deaths were reported, the fire destroyed properties worth thousands of cedis. The Ghana National Fire Service has since launched a full investigation into the incident.
