Two people lost their lives in a severe accident at Kormantse on the Mankessim–Cape Coast section of the Accra–Cape Coast Highway.

The crash, which took place on Saturday, also left several others injured.

According to the Mankessim Fire Rescue Team, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus (registration AS 4146-25) travelling toward Accra collided head-on with a Hino truck (registration GW 5958-25) coming from the opposite direction.

Thanks to the quick actions of passersby, most passengers escaped unharmed.

However, rescue teams had to extricate two victims trapped in the wreckage, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

Several injured passengers were rushed to Saltpond Government Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The Ghana Police Service has launched a full investigation into the crash.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses suggest that reckless overtaking may have caused the collision.
