The Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has urged personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to remain disciplined and avoid taking the law into their own hands, whether on or off duty.
Speaking at this year’s Land Combat and Fire Power Demonstration organised by the Ghana Army, Mr Genfi reminded soldiers that professionalism and respect for the rule of law must guide all their actions.
He cautioned that any officer or soldier found engaging in unlawful acts will face strict sanctions, regardless of rank or position.
The Ghana Armed Forces is one of the key institutions that uphold the integrity of our Constitution. I am confident that our soldiers and officers will continue to conduct themselves professionally and will not be seen taking the law into their own hands,” he said.
His warning comes in the wake of a recent incident in which a soldier assaulted a pharmacy assistant, an act captured on CCTV and widely circulated online.
The minister stressed that such behaviour undermines the image of the Armed Forces, which should always be seen as a symbol of discipline and national service.
Mr Genfi also revealed that starting in 2026, the Ghana Armed Forces will undergo a major retooling exercise aimed at boosting operational efficiency.
This initiative includes establishing new specialised units focused on counter-terrorism, cyber defence, and border security.
He commended the leadership of the GAF for their dedication to training and excellence, saying these values are key to maintaining peace and stability in Ghana.
