The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the violent clashes that erupted in Bawku on Sunday, July 13.

Announcing the directive via a statement on his official Facebook page on Monday, July 14, Dr. Boamah said the move is part of the government’s renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability in the long-troubled region.

He called on all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint as authorities work to uncover the facts behind the latest outbreak of violence.

“We are, once again, urging restraint and calm in Bawku following the developments as of yesterday,” he wrote.

The call comes in response to rising tensions and reports of renewed violence in the Upper East town, which has experienced periodic conflict in recent years.

Dr. Boamah confirmed that he has instructed security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial probe and pledged swift action based on the investigation’s findings.

“I have directed a full-scale investigation into the matter and assured the public that appropriate steps will be taken once the facts are established,” he stated.

He stressed the importance of a measured, fact-based response to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Dr. Boamah ended his statement with a strong appeal for calm: “Let us, once again, demonstrate restraint as we work together toward lasting peace in Bawku”.
