The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOSAG) has issued a warning regarding the potential for industrial action due to the government’s ongoing failure to establish a distinct salary structure for its members.
The association states that attempts to obtain a comprehensive salary structure have been ongoing since 2018, following thorough government examination and the signing of memoranda of understanding in January 2022 and July 2024.
Deputy Executive Secretary William Kojo Karikari, addressing the media on Friday, December 19, on behalf of Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, disclosed that despite the government’s postponement of the implementation date from January 2023 to January 2025, the agreement remains unfulfilled as of December 2025.
Consequently, the association asserts that it will persist in its demands and is ready to take additional measures to compel the government to fulfil its obligations.
“We implore the government to negotiate in good faith to forestall any impending action by staff of the Civil Service and the Local Government Service.
“We will not relent in our efforts to reach our destination. It appears there is only one message the government understands, and CLOSAG is prepared to take that action,” he added.
