Bawumia has been the most impactful Vice President in Ghana – Ofori Asiamah

Former Minister for Transport, Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has asserted that Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President of Ghana, made a significant impact during his tenure, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.

Mr. Ofori Asiamah believes that Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President for eight years, has established a transformative legacy that many of his predecessors could not match.

He highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s leadership in implementing various innovative policies that resonated with the public, including the introduction of Zipline drones for medical supply deliveries, the digitisation of the National Identity Card (Ghanacard), and the GhanaPay mobile wallet.

“Bawumia has a gift to rule this country; that is why some of us are following him… so we think that Dr. Bawumia will be a good President and has the experience to rule this country,” he stated.

He urged Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team at both the constituency and regional levels to refrain from insulting other NPP presidential candidates, emphasising the need for unity within the party.

“NPP needs unity to win power and not insults since Bawumia stands for unity and not insults so Dr. Alhaji Bawumia’s campiagn team will not entertain politics of insult from Bawumia’s campaign team”.

Nana Akomea, Chairman of the NPP Communications Directorate, echoed this sentiment, describing Dr. Bawumia as the most experienced candidate among the NPP hopefuls.

“Dr. Alhaji Bawumia has been the running mate for eight years, Vice President for eight years, Acting President on several occasions and none of his (Dr. Bawumia) contenders can match the experience of Dr. Bawumia. Even though some of those contenders served as Ministers, MPs and board Chairmen, they cannot compare themselves to Acting President or Vice President,” Nana Akomea stated.

“If you look at the records of voting, Ghanaians hardly vote for fresh presidential candidates, and every president who has handed over, handed over to the person who contested him, Kufuor contested Rawlings, and he handed over to Kufuor, the late Prof Mills contested Kufuor and he handed over to Prof Mills and Prof Mills unfortunately passed, and John Mahama came.

“President John Dramani Mahama was contested by Akufo-Addo and ended up handing over to Akufo-Addo and Akufo-Addo again handed over to President Mahama and President Mahama again contested Dr. Bawumia, so from the records, President Mahama will hand over to Dr Bawumia,” he added in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with MyNewsGh.com during Bawumia’s two-day campaign tour in the Central Region.

Nana Akomea further urged delegates to maintain this historical precedent, asserting that Dr. Bawumia is the candidate who can provide the NPP with a competitive edge, especially as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to present a fresh candidate.
