The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed all traditional leaders within Asanteman to bring any land disputes directly to him for resolution.
This call comes after the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, presented a report detailing a troubling rise in land-related conflicts among some chiefs.
During a meeting with the Asanteman Council on Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Asantehene expressed concern over the growing tensions.
He made it clear that no chief should attempt to handle such matters alone or allow them to escalate into confrontations.
Otumfuo revealed that the police report includes the names of specific chiefs involved in these disputes. He intends to meet with them individually to better understand and resolve the issues.
He also urged all affected parties to be patient and allow the traditional structures to handle the situation appropriately.
“If you think another chief has taken part of your land, bring the issue before me, and I will look into it. You don’t have to take the law into your hands and resort to violence,” Otumfuo stated.
He made a strong appeal for calm, asking that no further actions be taken until he has had the chance to review each case. His goal is to maintain peace and order across the region by handling each matter fairly and thoroughly.
This move reinforces the Asantehene’s role as a unifying figure and custodian of justice in Asanteman, especially on matters as sensitive as land ownership.
