The Ghana Police Service has dismissed claims that exhibits in a high-profile narcotics case in the Eastern Region have vanished, stressing that all 36 sacks of suspected Indian hemp are accounted for and secured.
In a statement, the Police Administration described as false and misleading media reports alleging that the seized narcotics had turned into sawdust.
It emphasised that both the impounded truck and the exhibits remain in the custody of the Eastern Regional Command.
Upon inspection, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua discovered that the vehicle, which was transporting sawdust, was also concealing 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics.
The truck was later moved to the Sekesua Police Station.
However, the driver and his mate escaped custody, abandoning the vehicle. Police say a manhunt has been launched to re-arrest the fugitives.
Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has opened an internal investigation to ensure accountability and transparency in the handling of the case.
