As Ghana joined the rest of the world to celebrate International Youth Day, the Global Shapers community , a non-governmental organisation, is seeking partnership with the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly to develop the youth.
“We are here to officially announce our presence in the district and to find out ways in which we together with the assembly can collaborate in pushing the development agenda among young people,” Rosaline Nartey leader of a delegation from the community who visited the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly said.
Global Shapers Community is a network of young achievers under age 30 and working together to address local, regional, and global challenges.
According to Ms Nartey, there were only four hubs of the group in Ghana: Kumasi, Accra, Sunyani, and Ho.

“We thought it prudent, inclusive, and worthwhile to establish one in Dodowa because there is a need to tackle development issues at the rural-level not always from the urban areas or regional capitals” she indicated.
The Dodowa hub, she said, was opened to young people between the ages of 18-27-years-old.
“If applicants are in school at the time of registering, they would be mentored and monitored until the applicant’s complete school and avail themselves fully to the activities of the hub,” she said
On his part, the District Chief Executive, Daniel Teye Akuffo, expressed his appreciation and commended the team for availing themselves to be part of the initiative.
“We pledge our support to your team and know that our doors are always opened for you” he added.
Background
Ghana has a youthful population with approximately 56% of it being under 25-years-old.
Even though young people form the majority of Ghana’s population they are largely unrecognised in the decisions making process which has created an enormous opportunity for young people to actively lead the charge in shaping the next generation
With this mindset, the Global Shapers Community was born out of the World Economic Forum.
Global Shapers Community is a network of young achievers and optimists under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional, and global challenges.
With more than 7,000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans 369 city-based hubs in 171 countries.
The newest addition is the Dodowa hub in the Shai-Osudoku District.
