Christian leaders across the country have declared a 3-day national prayer and fasting programme to seek the invention of God in the fight against the deadly novel coronavirus.
The programme starts from Friday, April 24 to Sunday to April 26, 2020.
President declares Wednesday national day of fasting and prayer
The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Paul Boafo in a meeting with the President reiterated the churches readiness to support the government’s efforts in winning the fight against the deadly virus which has claimed over 177,822 people globally.
“All of us have come together to organize a 3-day national prayer and fasting programme starting Friday through to Sunday this very week which is part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how Ghana is also helping to fight it,” he said.
NDC declares a nationwide 3-day fasting and prayer against COVID_19
Last month, President Akufo-Addo declared a National Day of Prayer and fasting over the COVID-19 pandemic which was duly observed on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
The prayer and fasting programme was to seek God’s intervention as the country and the world battled the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic which has infected hundreds of thousands of people and claimed many lives across the globe.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) also declared a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer from March 20-22, 2020.

FROM MY STANDPOINT AS A PROFESSOR OF COUNSELING, I SEE THE MOVE OF THE GHANAIAN PRESIDENT TO REMOVE THE PARTIAL LOCKDOWN AS A HUMANE AND RESPONSIBLE MOVE. ITS AN ADMISSION AMONG OTHER THINGS THAT NOT EVERYONE CAN BE FED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND A FEW DONORS. THIS LIFTING OF THE BAN HOWEVER WILL NOT HELP A GREAT PART OF THE SOCIETY UNLESS IT IS LINKED UP WITH THE REMOVAL OF BAN FROM CHURCHES AND OTHER SOCIAL GATHERINGS. A SEAMSTRESS TOLD ME THAT BEFORE THE BAN ON CHURCH MEETINGS, SHE WAS CONTRACTED TO MAKE A LOT OF DRESSES FOR SOME PEOPLE; BUT THEY HAVE SINCE
REFUSED TO PAY AND PICK UP THE DRESSES BECAUSE THEY INTENDED TO GO TO CHURCH AND ATTEND OTHER SOCIAL GATHERINGS WITH THE CLOTHES. SINCE THOSE GATHERINGS HAVE BEEN BANNED, THE LIFTING OF THE LOCKDOWN HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT MEANINGLESS, ECONOMICALLY TO HER. THIS IS TRUE FOR THOSE WHO SELL TO SCHOOL PEOPLE ALSO. SO THOUGH THERE IS A LIFTING OF THE LOCKDOWN YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING STILLNOT FEELING THE EFFECT. THEIR CLIENTS ARE CHURCHES, SCHOOLS AND EVENT PLANNERS:

NOT TO MENTION INSTRUMENTALISTS, SECURITY PERSONNEL ORPHANS AND WIDOWS AND THOSE WHO DIRECTLY BENEFIT FROM SMALL AND BIG CHURCHES.
I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF THE PRESIDENT IS THINKING ALONG THESE LINES. THE SOLUTION, LIKE HE PROBABLY HAS THOUGHT OF, IS TO EXTEND THE ‘COMPULSORY NOSE MASK WEARING TILL THE LAST COVID 19 PATIENT HAS BEEN QUARANTINED’, TO THE CHURCHES AND FOR SOCIAL GATHERINGS AND HENCE REMOVE THE BAN SO THAT THIS INTERCONNECTIVITY OF OUR SOCIETY IS RESTORED AND AND MADE BENEFITIAL ECONOMICALLY.
