Motorists and commuters using the Accra-Tema Beach Road are beginning to feel some relief following the partial reopening of the Nungua Barrier stretch, a move expected to reduce the heavy traffic that has plagued the area for months.

A visit to the project site showed a noticeable improvement in traffic flow after sections of the road were reopened.

Vehicles that were previously forced onto long and congested diversions are now moving more freely, easing daily stress for drivers and passengers who depend on the corridor.

The three tier interchange at Nungua Barrier, which forms part of the Beach Road Expansion Project, had stalled for a long period.

The delay created severe congestion, worsened road conditions, and frequent flooding, making travel frustrating and costly for commuters and commercial drivers alike.

Many residents say the situation affected businesses and increased transport fares.

Member of Parliament for the area, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured residents that work on the interchange and other development projects in the constituency will be completed.

She attributed the renewed activity on site to government intervention that allowed the contractor to return and resume work.

According to her, the gradual reopening of the road is already easing pressure on traffic within the Krowor area. “As we speak, his excellency has made the Roads Minister to allow the contractor to come back on site so you realize that gradually we are opening up the road and that will bring a lot of relief for all of us in Krowor,” she said.

The Municipal Assembly has also restated its commitment to supporting traffic management during peak hours and addressing ongoing water challenges in the municipality.
