We deserved to be in the final- Black Queens coach revisits 2024 WAFCON Semifinal loss

Kim Lars Bjorkegren, head coach of Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, believes that his team deserved to play in the final game of the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON.

He said this while addressing the media after Ghana’s 4-0 win over Egypt to seal qualification to the 2026 Women’s AFCON.

Ghana’s win at the Accra Sports Stadium coupled with its 3-0 win over Egypt in the first leg had Bjorkegren express his happiness over the performance but stopped short of matching the performance to the one the Queens put up in its 4-2 loss on penalties at the 2024 AFCON to Morocco that had Ghana miss the final game but win a bronze medal as a consolation prize.

“I do think one of the better games we have played was against Morocco in the semifinals.”

“We had less preparation into that game…and were the better team and we deserved to play in the final. To do that against home [host] country…that was a great performance” Bjorkren stated.
