The Minority in Parliament is urging an immediate national security briefing following renewed violent clashes and growing insecurity in parts of the Northern and Bono regions.

According to the caucus, the recent conflicts have led to deaths, widespread displacement, and fear among residents of the affected communities.

Minority Spokesperson on Defence and Interior, John Ntim Fordjour, raised the concern on the floor of Parliament, highlighting the deadly conflict in Binyuri in the Northern Region and renewed chieftaincy tensions in Sampa in the Bono Region.

He revealed that the Binyuri clashes have created a severe humanitarian crisis, displacing thousands of residents.

“The conflict in Binyuri resulted in an estimated 10,000 people fleeing to Burkina Faso, 13,000 to the Ivory Coast, and over 48,000 displaced within the Sola-Kalba-Tuna and Bolonbamboi districts,” he said.

Fordjour described the situation as alarming and urged Parliament to prioritise the safety and welfare of citizens affected by the violence.

He also cited the situation in Sampa, where recent chieftaincy clashes have caused multiple deaths and heightened local tensions.

“It is important that within the next week, the Minister for the Interior and the Minister responsible for Defence appear before this House to give us updates,” he urged.

The Deputy Minority Whip added that safeguarding lives must take precedence over all other concerns.

The Minority insists that a security briefing will help Parliament understand the extent of the unrest and assess what steps are being taken to restore peace and protect affected communities.
