ICU staff at Prudential Bank protest alleged unfair salary adjustments

Staff of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) at Prudential Bank Ghana Limited staged a protest at the bank’s head office on Wednesday, October 22, accusing the new management of discrimination and unfair treatment in recent salary adjustments.

Wearing red armbands and chanting protest songs, the workers claimed that management had implemented selective salary increases, favouring some departments, particularly IT, while neglecting long-serving employees.

One protester told the media that “At the start of the year, the union negotiated a 15% across-the-board salary increase. Management said funds weren’t available but promised to pay later”.

“That hasn’t happened. Yet, some IT staff have been promoted and given raises while the rest of us are left out,” he said.

The workers are demanding a fair and transparent salary review process across all departments and clearer communication from management regarding the recent pay changes.

Meanwhile, management is in a closed-door meeting with ICU leaders to address the concerns and resolve the dispute.
