FC Samartex 1996 have hired former Ghana Premier League striker Eric Bekoe as the strikers coach for the team. Beyond serving as the lead trainer primarily responsible for training the team’s forwards, the former Kotoko striker will serve as the head coach for Samartex’s Youth Team.
The hire is expected to aid in the production from the 2023-2024 League Champions’ frontline that has thus far underperformed.
Three games into the 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season, Samartex have drawn all three games and scored just once during this period.
A season after winning the league, Samartex finished seventh after scoring just 33 goals in 34 league outings; a similar slow production to start another season, the club’s hierarchy has made a move to address this.
Bekoe emerged as one of the biggest stars in the Ghana Premier League in the mid-2000’s off his brilliant run with Kpando Heart of Lions and Kumasi Asante Kotoko. He won the top goal scorers award in the 2007-2008 season where he scored 17 goals in 23 games.

He also played for Petrojet in the Egyptian top flight and had a brief stint with Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars. Samartex take on Aduana Stars on Sunday, October 5.
