The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Township and surrounding communities in the Savannah Region, following renewed tensions over a land dispute.
The curfew, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, takes effect starting Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and will remain in place until further notice.
The decision, announced by Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, was made on the advice of the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument.
Officials say the curfew is a preventive measure aimed at restoring calm in the area after recent clashes stemming from unresolved land issues.
The disturbances have raised concerns about public safety and potential escalation.
In response, the Ghana Police Service, working closely with the Ghana Armed Forces and other security stakeholders, has deployed reinforcement teams to key locations, including Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and nearby towns. The move is intended to bolster security presence and deter further violence.
The government is calling on all community members to help de-escalate tensions.
Authorities have also encouraged residents to cooperate fully with security agencies and observe the curfew directives to support efforts toward long-term stability in the region.
